Julie Andreyev , Emily Carr Institute (Canada)
FWDrift [remix]

Julie Andreyev’s internationally performed projects, FWDrift [remix] and VJFleet [redux] , examine urban culture through a fleet of ‘expressive’ cars fitted with audio and video recording technologies, sensors, and interactive software. During performances, audio-visions of the city are repositioned into the public and that which is private – the space of the car – becomes public and a tool for commentary about the city.

Andreyev’s current research, FWDrift *glisten proposes a medium that explores the city in an innovative encounter with real-time as ‘drawing’ or diagrammatic mapping of urban space through light. Sensory interaction with elements, such as the vibration of the car body and the surrounding surfaces create a ‘seismic notation,’ which is used to generate a soundscape.
